Newly elected board member recognized for her work on behalf of survivors
The New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence is pleased to welcome our newest board member Jennifer Turco Beaudet. Jennifer was elected to the board of directors in May. She has a long history with the Coalition, serving as a member of the AmeriCorps Victim Assistance Program (AVAP) and later as a member of the AVAP advisory board. She is currently an attorney with the Manchester office of Primmer Piper Eggleston & Cramer PC, and focuses her practice in the areas of business litigation, probate litigation, and appellate practice.
On June 25, Jennifer was one of two recipients to be recognized with the first annual Granite State Beacon Award which was presented by Congressman Frank Guinta. Jennifer was selected for her notable contributions to her community and for her inspiration to other women.
Jennifer is a survivor in every sense of the word. As a college student she experienced domestic violence and stalking at the hands of a former boyfriend. This experience greatly influenced her decision to help others through her work in the AVAP program and to later support the work of AVAP and the Coalition as a member of the AVAP advisory board, the Coalition's development committee, and now the Coalition Board. She once stated, "No young woman should have to go through what I went through and, if she must go through it, she shouldn't have to go through it alone."
At the age of 27 Jennifer was diagnosed with breast cancer, just months after starting her first job out of law school. After completing active treatment, Jennifer was able to turn her experience into something positive through her formation and development of the Manchester affiliate of the Young Survival Coalition (YSC) in 2008. Drawing on the training and experience she received years ago as an AVAP member and advocate, Jennifer has personally provided connections, resources, and support to dozens of area women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 40.
"It is clear that Jennifer Turco Beaudet is a strong female leader in the Granite State," said Kim France, Coalition Executive Director. "She deserves to be recognized and applauded for her leadership, commitment, passion, and drive to enhance the lives of so many NH citizens."
