Statement regarding the YWCA Tragedy

The tragic events that occurred at the YWCA of New Hampshire this weekend are a painful reminder of the devastating toll that family violence is taking in our communities.

Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the day’s events, particularly the family of 9 year old Joshua Sayvon. Our thoughts are also with the members of the YWCA staff that work tirelessly to provide support to families in need. They are a critical resource in this community and we encourage everyone to continue to provide them with support.

This was a senseless act, but sadly one in which we’ve seen before. It is devastating that such a heinous crime was committed here in New Hampshire. In the wake of this tragedy the Coalition will continue to work with law enforcement and the court system to find ways to prioritize the safety of our children.

Although the YWCA will be closed on Monday the other member programs of the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence are available to provide service. Anyone in need of assistance should call the appropriate hotline below. Confidential services are available 24 hours a day.
