According to the New Hampshire Violence Against Men Survey one in 20 New Hampshire men reported being sexually assaulted; over two thirds (68%) of those assaults occurred before the victim’s 18th birthday.


In 2018, NH’s 13 domestic and sexual violence crisis centers served 15,346 individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Sexual Violence Research
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: 
  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes. Nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 38 men have experienced completed or attempted rape and 1 in 14 men was made to penetrate someone (completed or attempted) during his lifetime.
  • Sexual violence starts early. 1 in 3 female rape victims experienced it for the first time between 11-17 years old and 1 in 8 reported that it occurred before age 10. Nearly 1 in 4 male rape victims experienced it for the first time between 11-17 years old and about 1 in 4 reported that it occurred before age 10.
  • Sexual violence is costly. Recent estimates put the cost of rape at $122,461 per victim, including medical costs, lost productivity, criminal justice activities, and other costs.

Domestic Violence Statistics and Research
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
  • About 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime and reported at least one impact of the violence (like being concerned for their safety).
  • Over 43 million women and about 38 million men experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Stalking Statistics
  • 1 in 6 women and 1 in 17 men have been stalked at some point in their lives.
  • While most women and men first experience being stalked as adults, approximately 21% of female victims and 13% of male victims reported being stalked as minors.
  • Nearly 54% of female victims and 41% of male victims experienced stalking before the age of 25.
