Today we learned that State Representative Eric Schleien has been charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of simple assault against a 16-year-old girl. Representative Schleien is innocent until proven guilty, but these allegations are alarming. Sadly, cases of sexual violence in NH continue to grab national headlines, and a recent study by the CDC ranks NH as having one of the highest rates of sexual violence in the nation. In response, The Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence is working with state leaders to craft a comprehensive legislative agenda to address a number of inadequacies in our current sexual assault laws. In addition, we will work to help prevent sexual violence by working to establish opportunities for all students in NH to receive age-appropriate prevention education.
About the Coalition NHCADSV is a statewide network of 13 independent member programs committed to ending sexual violence, domestic violence, and stalking, through direct services to victims, community education, and public policy advocacy. The NHCADSV and its 13 member programs do not discriminate based on gender, age, health status (including HIV-positive), physical, mental, or emotional ability, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, socio-economic status, race, national origin, immigration status, or religious or political affiliation.
